The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) announces the second year of a special program to support the legacy Black Press and its communities. Black-owned media outlets, NABJ members and others are invited to develop investigative, feature and enterprise stories or series and productions that focus on the impact COVID-19 is having on K-12 education. $300,000 is earmarked for this initiative in 2022. Providing targeted funding for this initiative to help Black journalists and publishers is critical to fueling Black Press efforts to produce and disseminate stories important to our communities,” said NABJ President Dorothy Tucker. “We appreciate the support from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative in bringing this project to fruition.”
“The Black Press Grant Program supports high-quality journalism that elevates innovative support for students and teachers,” said Raymonde Charles, Vice President of Communications, Education and Ventures at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. “We are proud to continue our support for this program and NABJ’s work to ensure Black media thrives.”
Final projects will be published in the grant recipients’ respective communities, including print platforms and critical companion digital platforms. NABJ will also publish those stories on its upcoming digital news site.
