NABJ Board Offers Grants for Members Impacted by LA Times and Sports Illustrated Layoffs

Dear Members:

The NABJ Board is disheartened to hear of the continued layoffs across the industry, including the Los Angeles Times and Sports Illustrated. The Board has been monitoring these layoffs and is aware that several of our members have been impacted.

Over the years, through our NABJ C.A.R.E.S. program and with the help of partners and donors, we have been able to support our members in various ways during such hardships and in times of need. We are grateful to be able to step forward again and continue this program with another round of grants. Applications are now open, and the form will close on Feb. 19, 2024, at Midnight PT.

As always, we stand ready to offer financial support through NABJ C.A.R.E.S. and encourage you to also take advantage of the job opportunities listed on our Career Center: NABJCareers.org.

We also want to take this time to encourage all media owners to be mindful of the value of representation during layoffs. Diversity, equity and inclusion should always be considered and preserved when making major changes to the makeup of a news staff.

If you were laid off by the LA Times or Sports Illustrated, please submit your information via our form, and we will review your grant application as soon as possible.

We are here for you!

Sincerely,

Ken Lemon, NABJ President
