The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is delighted to announce a new major initiative in Philadelphia by a group of dedicated NABJ members.
A group led by a few former Philadelphia chapter presidents and dedicated area journalists has decided to create a new chapter named “NABJ-Philadelphia.”
The new chapter, when officially created, is eager to join the dozens of other official NABJ-related chapters supporting its national mission of journalism excellence and advocacy.
Currently, there is no certified NABJ chapter in Philadelphia, the fourth-largest media market in the country.
NABJ President Ken Lemon said, “We applaud the enthusiastic efforts and plans of this NABJ member-driven movement. The national organization supports this organic effort by local journalists to reconnect the NABJ Philadelphia chapter to its historic roots.”
The national NABJ Board of Directors will be meeting next month in Philadelphia and will get a full update on this exciting initiative.
One of the conveners of the new chapter is former Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists (PABJ) President Michael Days.
“We are looking forward to working closely with NABJ to quickly develop a dynamic Philadelphia chapter with strong, formal ties to NABJ. That is our legacy; that is our mission,” said Days.
In addition to being a former PABJ president, Days is also a former NABJ Regional Director and NABJ 2017 Hall of Fame inductee.
