On Thursday, January 26, NABJ President Dorothy Tucker participated in the U.S. State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program event titled “Edward R. Murrow Program for Journalists – Research and Investigation.” The event was held in Washington, D.C., and organized by World Learning.
The event included participants from Portuguese-speaking countries (such as Brazil, Portugal, and Mozambique) who were interested in learning more about NABJ’s training and career advancement offerings and getting insight into steps to take to increase advocacy in their respective newsrooms.
President Tucker also joined in on discussions with the cohort that centered around freedom of the press; the evolution of investigative reporting and journalistic research in the U.S.; the critical role investigative journalism plays in our society for raising awareness on social issues and illegal, irregular, or abusive actions by officials, corporations, and criminals; new communication technologies and opportunities for journalism advancement; and best practices in fact-checking.
