Organization Seeks Meeting with Condé Nast to Discuss

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is pleased to see the hiring of Dawn Davis as the editor-in-chief of Bon Appétit, a food media brand owned by Condé Nast. 

Davis brings impeccable credentials to Bon Appétit after previously serving as vice president at Simon & Schuster. As an African American, she represents one of the few people of color leading a major media brand. Her hiring follows the ouster of Adam Rapoport, who resigned after allegations of racial insensitivity under his leadership were raised.

 “Dawn represents a new generation of African American leaders who bring the experience, knowledge and expertise needed to lead companies in a new media landscape,” said NABJ President Dorothy Tucker. “We look forward to learning about her plans for leading the storied publication, and NABJ is more than ready to assist her in any way that we can to ensure her success.”

Tucker also said that NABJ will seek a meeting with Condé Nast CEO Roger Lynch and Artistic Director Anna Wintour, to discuss overall diversity and inclusion at the media company. Others have spoken out about the lack of Black talent at the company’s other media titles, and NABJ wants to learn more about what specifically will be done to address this culture and ensure an equitable workforce.

NABJ implores the company to ensure Black journalists and creative professionals are getting diverse opportunities from entry-level positions to top executive roles.
